Cristiano Ronaldo falls out of world’s top five best paid footballers…
Cristiano Ronaldo has been having a season to forget at Real Madrid and his fall from grace has been further highlighted by an apparent drop in the list of the best-paid footballers in the world.
Spanish newspaper Marca released their updated list of football’s 10 biggest salaries, revealing the current Ballon d’Or winner is not only significantly behind his arch-rival Lionel Messi, but is not even in the top five.
Ronaldo, with an annual salary of €21million (£18.5m), is only good enough for sixth in the list, behind three Chinese Super League players, Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar and Messi.
Ezequiel Lavezzi (£20.3m-per-year) and Oscar (£21.2m) are out of football’s European spotlight, but they are both ranked above the Real Madrid star after recent moves to the CSL.
Neymar, who became the most expensive player in the world last summer when he joined PSG for an incredible £198m, comes in at third on the list with an annual salary of £31.7m, which equates to £610,000-per-week.
Top spot, then, obviously goes to Lionel Messi, who recently agreed a new long-term contract with Barcelona worth a staggering £40.5m-per-season, bringing him within touching distance of becoming the first £1m-a-week player.
That will likely infuriate Ronaldo, who has prided himself on being the best footballer in the world and has always demanded his wage be reflective of that. To add insult to injury, he is set to move even further down the list in the coming days, or even hours!
Other players filling the list are Kylian Mbappe, Gareth Bale, Luis Suarez, Antoine Griezmann, Kevin de Bruyne and more.
