If you think of the transfer situation logically and in a tactical sense, Manchester United and Mourhinio need only 2 players to make this side a Champion Leauge contender- Alex Sandro & Gareth Bale.

United currently have 5 CB's and 4 full backs not including Tuanzebe and Fosu-mensah who can play in these positions .
Young is a player who is good but isn't the player to help Utd win titles. Sandro is among the top 5 LB's in the world and United should bring him in , sell Young and let Shaw get game time to gain confidence and form.

No need any replacements in midfield. But Fellaini should leave. We have 7 midfield players- Pogba, Fred, Matic; Herrera, Mata, Perira, McTominay for 3 midfield spots. Not to mention the likes of Angel Gomez from the academy.

Upfront Lukaku, Sanchez, Lingard with Martial and Rashford are the options. Add to this Bale. A front three of Sanchez, Lukaku, Bale/ Martial ,Rashford ,Lingard being the subs. Imagine a fluid front 3 of any combination of these 6 and it'll be enough to break even the best defence.

Defence( Back 4)~Valencia/Dalot/TFM ; Bailey/Jones/Lindelof ; Rojo/Blind/Smalling ; Sandro/Shaw/Young

Midfield 3 ~ Matic/Herrera ; Fred/McTominay /Periera; Pogba/Mata

Forward 3 Sanchez/Martial ; Lukaku/Rashford ; Bale/Lingard

I haven't included the likes of Tuanzebe/ Angel Gomez/ Chong since they are unlikely to get game time unless there's an injury. The key is making sure players get a consistent run of games in either the Capital one cup, Carabao cup, PL and CL. Blind, Lindelof, Shaw , Perira, Rashford and Martial are players who I feel will benefit from a consistent run of games in the FA cup and Capitol One cup and against lower leauge opposition. This can help them turn in good and consistent performances when used as super subs or to replace an injured player.
If Mourhinio rotates his team properly and uses the right tactics and players each game this Man Utd team can compete with City for the title while mounting a serious challenge for the Champions League title. Maybe even on all 4 fronts?
